ApproachSee below
What transfers
- Review text content
- Rating values (stars/numeric)
- Review author name
- Review date
- Verified purchase status
What does NOT transfer: Shopify migration tools cannot transfer all data types. The following are commonly lost during migration.
- Review images/photos (rare, most platforms)
- Review helpfulness votes
- Review replies / merchant responses
- Review approval status in some cases
Risks and common problems
- Shopify does not have a native product reviews system
- Review app data models differ significantly
- Review-to-product associations can break if product IDs change
- Some review apps have import limits on free plans
- Duplicate reviews if migrating to a new review app
Recommended approach
Choose a Shopify review app (Judge.me, Yotpo, Stamped, Loox). Export reviews from the source platform as CSV. Map fields to the review app's import format. Import reviews, ensuring product references are correct. If using WooCommerce Product Reviews Pro or similar, check if the Shopify review app offers a direct migration path.
Technical notes
- WooCommerce reviews are WordPress comments with comment_type='review'
- Magento reviews in review + review_detail tables
- Judge.me and Yotpo offer WooCommerce-to-Shopify review migration
- Some review apps support CSV import with product handle mapping
- SEO: review rich snippets need re-implementation
- Rating counts may reset in Shopify if using a new review system
